China reports 448 new COVID cases on July 29 vs 564 day earlier

BEIJING, July 30 (Reuters) - Mainland China reported 448 new coronavirus cases on July 29, of which 100 were symptomatic and 348 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Saturday.

That compares with 564 new cases a day earlier - 109 symptomatic and 455 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately.

There were no new deaths, leaving the nation's death toll at 5,226. As of Friday, mainland China had confirmed 229,394 cases with symptoms.

China's capital, Beijing, reported no new local cases for a fifth consecutive day, the local government said.

Shanghai reported one new local symptomatic case, the same as a day earlier, and four new local asymptomatic cases, versus six the previous day, local government data showed.

No cases in Shanghai were reported outside quarantined areas, the same as a day before.

The southern technology hub of Shenzhen reported two new local infections, compared with four a day earlier, both were asymptomatic. One of the cases in Shenzhen was found outside quarantined areas.
